Telefónica and Orange
Running out of network connection in a remote forest or in the depths of a garage is a real drama for many of us today. 4G has penetrated to the deepest corners of our lives. But not so long ago the reality was very different. Our daily life did not depend on mobile phones and we had conversations without any electronic device interrupting them.
Dominion has witnessed in the first person, through its professionals, this entire technological revolution and achievements accomplished by the fiber connectivity in our lives. Today 97% of the Spanish population has access to 4G and 71% to fiber optics, making this state one of the world leaders in this area. Only Japan and South Korea in the OECD have a higher index of fiber optic penetration in their homes.
Dominion has contributed, along with 10 other companies, to deploy an entire fiber optic network in various provinces of Spain through which operators such as Telefónica and Orange provide their telecommunications services. The project is still underway and today the goal is still to make fiber optic connection as widely available as possible.
This project has allowed, so far, to provide access to fiber optic more than 22 million homes, has reduced the digital gap between the rural world and cities and also set the stage for the arrival of 5G that will make possible a new social change thanks to high speed navigation. In what other transformations will Dominion be involved during the next decade?

Challenge:
The main challenge in fiber optic deployment projects is the efficient management of field workers and their coordination with the materials, equipment and permits necessary to do it. The diversity of scenarios, from cities to rural areas with difficult communication, is an added difficulty.
Dominion Plus:
Dominion's technological capabilities have allowed the development of management tools that maximize efficiency and ensure the quality of the final result in this type of operations. At the same time, these platforms ensure the profitability of this activity and ultimately contribute to making telecommunication services more affordable for everyone.
Results:
Thanks to these capabilities, Dominion was and continues to be one of the key players in the fiber optic deployment in Spain. The fiber infrastructure in Barcelona, Girona, Cádiz or Málaga, for example, has been deployed by Dominion.
